The friends I'm staying with in Shell Beach have a dog. His name is Red Dog. As the name suggests he's red. This is a simple post because I like Red Dog and he's a simple dog. He's a little slow in the head but he makes up for it with a great temper. I love Red Dog
we form an image of what perfection is in order to try to be good enough. we create an image of how we should be in order to be accepted by everyone. Trying to be good enough for them, we create and image of perfection, but we don't fit this image. we create this image, but this image is not real. we are never going to be perfect from this point of view.
I took a trip with Kevin yesterday to Pismo Beach. While he surfed I walked out on the pier so I could see the action closer up. Here is one of the pictures I took.
The Economist finally caught up with "The Flan" in this past week's edition with an article on the correlation between wealth and happiness. I've always said that money and happiness have a direct correlation when you are below a certain threshold where you can't afford basic living needs. For example, if I can't provide shelter and food for my children then I'm going to be unhappy because I can't provide these things. For me more money will allow me to buy life's necessities and will make me happier. But when it gets to the point where we can buy luxuries then the game changes. At least this is what the Economist found. The data pulled showed that while the amount of disposable income (money used for luxury goods) in the US has increased in the last 50 years our well-being has declined.
If the wealth problem wasn't enough the US has more problems. Now people aren't content with just being wealthy, people want to be better then their neighbors. The principle behind this is elitism and I think it's something that is causing the pandemic of depression and metal health issues in the US. The idea behind this isn’t that I have more money then someone else but that I have access to something that they don’t. That’s why people continue to buy better TV’s even though the one they have is fine. Or why it doesn’t matter how much your house cost just as long as no one else has something similar to it. Why do you think people work endless hours in jobs they hate. I think it’s so they will have a better job title and feel above others.
Life isn't hard, we just make it that way.

A couple months ago Caleb and I went camping in the Ruby Mountain which are within the Humboldt Wilderness area. Apparently it's the largest wilderness area in North America. It was so cold during the nights that Caleb ended up in his car with the heat on. He was nice enough to let me use is zero rated bag. I'm surprised I didn't suffocated myself in that bag.
